A logo! Yay?

My ridiculous love of logos has had me trying to come up with a logo for k&t ever since I thought of the name. I tried making a little yin-yang with a snarling maw on one side and a punching fist on the other. But that sucked. Then I tried a logo that somehow incorporated Knuckles from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, but nothing really came of that.

Then I got this idea of some brass knuckles with teeth. After a few hand sketches I went digital and made the logo you see above. I was pretty happy with it at first. But now… I dunno.

I like the name “knuckles and teeth” because it evokes certain thoughts and images right away. As a fan of social engineering I think it’s interesting that you can set the perceived tone of something with 3 words (2 if you don’t count “and”) that don’t actually say anything; though that perceived tone may be completely incorrect.

But I’m wondering if the logo might be too directly aggressive. If the unspoken connotation has now been spoken, you know? For now it stays… but who knows…

Wanna save a buck but still go out to eat? Check out restaurant.com, a website that lets you buy gift certificate at a fraction of their value. For example, I could buy a gift certificate for the Hungry Horse Grill for $10 that has a redemption of $25. I haven’t used the site myself as there aren’t any restaurants listed that I regularly attend; but if you try it and it works well, please let me know!

For all you facebook users out there, you might care about their new Terms of Service where you sign over all rights to everything but your dog (but you probably don’t).

For more pictures and less text, check out Trick Photography with Books & Magazines, which I have come to find out is also commonly referred to as sleevefacing.

Or maybe you’d rather check out these cars (and a house) with a weight problem. :P

And if pictures still aren’t good enough, here’s a clever little video I saw today:

You can check out some of the other videos by “sheepfilms” at their YouTube channel.

The coolest font ever?

Some posts are nothing more than a testament to just how geeky I can be. This is one of them…

Among the many, many geeky things I like, fonts are one of them. My typography collection is pretty extensive. I think making attractive fonts is quite the art form. Fonts are just pretty cool to me.

Two weeks ago I found a link to a site that provides you with a PDF to print out. On it is a grid with a every single letter, number and a bunch of symbols each apportioned a spot. You fill in the grid by hand and then scan it in. Next you upload the scan to the site which then uses it to create true type font file that’s based on your handwriting!

If you too find the idea of being able to convert (or write) an entire document using a font that looks just your handwriting immensely cool, then go check out YourFonts.com yourself. The entire process is quick, easy, and free! What more can you ask for? :D

The problem with paper (and procrastination)

Starting January 5th I started logging down everything I ate every day. The purpose was twofold. First I wanted to get an idea of what I was putting in my body per day, and second I hoped doing such would begin to help me learn how to eat well.

The plan was to write it down until I put it into an calorie counter online (or just on my computer). However there are quite a few options when it comes to calorie counters so I figured I’d take some time to go through them all and find which I liked best. In the mean time… it would be pen & paper.

After two solid weeks of writing in my extra-small Moleskine Volant notebook I was well on my way. That is until I got home on day 14 to realize that I left it on the table (I’m assuming) after I finished lunch that day. Two weeks gone.

Well, that’s ok because Moleskine sells the extra-small volant in a pack of two. So out came a fresh notebook and the cataloging began anew. Then earlier this week (after 3 weeks since cataloging was “anew”) I found myself looking for said notebook. Unable to find it in it’s usual spots I tried to remember the last time I saw it. I recalled writing in it the day before, but I didn’t recall taking it out of my pants before they were washed. :( Of course. I checked the back pocket and found a still-damp, barely legible, three week log of everything I’ve shoved in my face.

frustration.

So I’m not cataloging what I’ve been eating this week. Probably won’t be next week either. I feel kinda burnt out on this idea. I know I need to gain an understanding of where I am right now, but I’m just “blah” about the whole thing.

So I think I need to bump up the priority on finding a well made calorie counting site (it’s much harder to put the internet in your washing machine). Then maybe I’ll be ready to try it again.

I’ll keep you posted. :)
